Head Start Early Childhood Program

Lyn-CAG Children and Family Services operates the Head Start Early Childhood Program for children ages three to five years old, from low-income families. Head Start promotes the school readiness of children, by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Head Start programs provide a learning environment that supports children’s growth in many areas such as language, literacy, and social and emotional development. Head Start emphasizes the role of parents as their child’s first and most important teacher. These programs help build relationships with families that support family well-being and many other important areas.

Head Start in-person classroom instruction is provided at the following sites:

  • 701 Thomas Road Lynchburg, VA.
  • Amherst Elementary; Amherst, VA.
  • Big Island Elementary School; Big Island, VA.
  • Stewartsville Elementary; Goodview, VA.
  • Madison Heights Elementary School, Madison Heights, VA

Career Employment Training

Certified Nurse Aide and Medication Aide Training

Lyn-CAG partners with local authorized facilities to provide CNA and Med Aide Training to eligible individuals. Six-week blended-learning class; day & evening class options available.

Certified Nurse Aide Training

Interested persons, should come in to fill out an application to be considered for the program.

Walk-in assistance is also available in the Lyn-CAG Opportunity Center located at 1010 Main Street, Downtown Lynchburg, Monday – Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Training program qualifications:

  • Compassion for Healthcare
  • TANF Eligible
  • Low-income participant (200% of national poverty level)
  • No prior felonies allowed / Misdemeanors evaluated on a case-by-case basis
  • TABE Assessment required

**Applicants must be willing to work and comply with requirements to work in a Health Care Facility, included required screenings and vaccines.

Med-Aide Training

CNA’s are trained to deliver medicine in an assisted living centers. If you have received your CNA state certification you may be qualified to enroll in the training.

Applications for enrollment are available in Opportunity Center.

Classes are scheduled monthly at authorized facilities, times may vary.

General Education Diploma Preparation

Offered at Lyn-CAG Opportunity Center and taught by Adult Continuing Education (ACE).

The Lyn-CAG Opportunity Center Computer Lab is open to the public for job search or education opportunities.
