Who We Are
Lynchburg Community Action Group, Inc. is a community action agency serving the City of Lynchburg and the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford and Campbell. Established in 1965, through President Lyndon B. Johnson’s “War on Poverty”, Lyn-CAG is an anti-poverty agency that was originally enabled through the Equal Opportunity Act of 1964 and chartered in the City of Lynchburg in 1965.
Our Mission
Along with community partners, it is Lyn-CAG’s Mission to provide programs and services that enable low-income individuals and families realize a better quality of life.
As a community action agency, Lyn-CAG works to reduce poverty in our community by addressing targeted community needs for individuals and families in the areas of Education, Employment and Housing services. Established as a 501(c)3 non-profit, Lyn-CAG is governed by a community-based Board of Directors comprised of low-income residents, local elected officials and private and public community stakeholders.
How We Empower
Community Action Agencies empower people to help themselves. Lyn-CAG provides the necessary support, guidance and resources that help people overcome life’s problems, improve their quality of life, and achieve self-sufficiency. In the New Virginia Economy, Lyn-CAG is working hard to combat poverty and improve the economic vitality of the communities we serve.
