Office Automated Computer Skills Training
The program curriculum provides office automation skills at a basic level and includes instruction in the use of software such as Word I & II, Excel, electronic filing, 10-key calculator, E-mail and Outlook applications. Students interns in the automated computer skills program provide volunteer hours for selected agencies, organizations and businesses.
Professional Cash Register Training
This program component teaches the student basic sales entry techniques including how to use bar code scanning devices. Students learn how to balance and account for the money in the cash register drawer. Customer service workshops are incorporated into the training curriculum.
General Education Diploma (GED)
Preparation is for the various components of the GED test. CET Staff and volunteer tutors can provide one-on-one assistance.
Certified Nurse’s Assistant Training
Our CNA component is the fastest growing program and very much in demand. This program will result in high quality, holistic health care for the elderly and disable in our community. It will provide an opportunity for each nurse’s assistant to develop clinical and laboratory skills, knowledge and awareness of their role and responsibility in resident care in order to meet the demands of today’s medical profession. Support and follow-up services are a standard benefit of the program for the 120-hour – six week program. This course is mandated to be under the instruction and supervision of a licensed nurse. Nurse’s Assistants are prepared to deal with the physiological problems that influence the chronically ill patient. The program includes time spent in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical settings as required by the Virginia State Board of Nursing. Upon completion of this program training, students have the option of taking the Virginia State Board Exam, which can double their earning potential.
Medical Technician Training
This program is a 68-hour state approved training program that prepares Nurse’s Assistant to administer medications in an assist living facility. This course gives CNA’s the opportunity to advance into medication administration. As a medical technician the individual will be eligible to become a supervisor in the assisted living area. It also prepares Medical Technician for the fields of phlebotomy or nursing.
Internship and Volunteer Opportunities
CET students are required to participate in internship and volunteer activities in order to receive practical experience related to classroom theory and training. Program participants are provided with additional skills through the agency’s new Lyn-CAG Job Search Readiness Skills Training and Employment Services Program.
Criteria For Training Program Enrollment
Applicants should be in any of the following categories:
- Unemployed individuals
- Underemployed individuals
- Employed individuals who do not have the skills to achieve self-sufficiency
- TANF or Food Stamp recipients
- Non-TANF individuals
- VIEW clients
Criteria for Program Participation:
Students will complete the agency’s intake application packet and provide required documentation or self-attestation in the absence of such documentation. Students must
sign a disclaimer when self-attesting income. Required documentation includes picture ID, Income and household verification (TANF, Food Stamps), Child’s Birth Certificate and Social Security Card.
Admissions for the training program includes completion of the program application whether the prospective student is a walk-in client or has been referred by the Department of Social Services, Virginia Workforce Investment Act, or other human resources agencies. Referrals are received by telephone, direct mail, e-mail, or facsimile to the Center for Employment Training. Lyn-CAG staff members share program information to groups of referral source workers.
Community Partners and Outreach:
Department of Social Services and Workforce Investment (WIA) Region 2000 provides referrals for individuals seeking job skills training.
The Lynchburg Health and Rehabilitation Center provides clinical training for our program as a requirement for certification as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant and Heritage Green is the practicum location for the Medical Technician sudents.
Partner organizations include The Summit, Personal Homecare, Centra Health, Heritage Green, The Oaks, and Guggenheimer.
Healthcare agencies, childcare facilities and assisted living facilities employ approximately 90% of our students who receive certification.
